English Chinois Print

A brilliant floral print by English mill Edinburgh Weavers. Edinburgh Weavers was one of the most important textile companies of the twentieth century.

Alastair Morton, visionary art director of the company, commissioned a remarkable series of textiles from leading British artists. In his era, Alastair succeeded in fusing textiles and modern art because he combined the latest technical processes with brilliant creative minds.

Illustrious British designers such as Barbara Hepworth, Terence Conran, Paul Nash and Ben Nicholson all created work for the company. Edinburgh Weavers’ fabrics were used regularly by leading interior decorators during the 1930s and so our work found its way into ever-more glamorous settings, including the London flat of actor Cary Grant, no. 9 Downing Street, famous ships such as the Queen Mary, Claridges, The Savoy and the Tate Gallery. Printed on linen, backed in a cotton/linen blend.
