Cut Velvet Damask
Figured velvets like this damask from Italy, are woven on a jacquard loom. Fine metal wires are woven into the fabric where that raised pattern is to appear. The loops formed on the wires are cut with a special knife, leaving the motif in velvet pile. A unique and painstaking process.
Backed in stried velvet washed for an antique appearance and soft hand.
