French Flamme

French antique Ikat called flamme, dating to 1850 or earlier. Typical of Provence, it was used frequently as bedhangings either by itself or in conjunction with toiles and other patterns. The process involves carefully tying off sections of the warp and dying prior to weaving, creating the feathered appearance in the design. We have backed this piece in heavy Belgian linen.
